Review | Ultrasonic jewellery cleaners

Last year, I bought a personal ultrasonic jewellery cleaner and had a jewellery cleaning party at home.

How does an ultrasonic cleaner work? Ultrasonic cleaning works through high-frequency sound waves transmitted through liquid to scrub clean the surface of immersed parts. The high-frequency sound waves, typically 40 kHz, agitate the liquid solution of water or solvent, and cause the cavitation of solution molecules.

We tested the unit with various jewellery - rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, water resistant watches and glasses - made of gold, silver and steel - using only water. After three to five minutes, the cleaned items came out with most dirt, grime and dead skin gone. We had to run some of the items twice. Some came out with more shine, some with no obvious change.

It’s a cleaner, not a miracle worker, and worth the money to clean my items at home and my convenience.
